Interesting 1st Amendment Motown E-mails

Here's the crime stats for Gilbert, Arizona, a city just a tad larger than Moreno Valley. Any idea why they are so much lower than moval??

Moreno Valley Must Have The Best City Council As They Are The Highest Paid

http://www.pe.com/localnews/stories/PE_News_Local_D_salaries16.2cfba2a.html

Increase The Streetlight Tax?

Just Say No!

The city  has plenty of money in the general fund to pay city employees over $200,000 a year plus benefits and they want you to vote to increase your fees?  Do you really think they'll turn off the lights?  Do you think they should use our tax money  to convince you to increase your taxes?    Let them use general fund money and reduce the obscene salaries of the city employees to a reasonable amount. Perhaps a good rule would be to pay no more than the average Moreno Valley taxpayers salary.

The most important thing about this is you are voting to allow the city to raise your streetlight fees in the future with NO VOTE!    This may not technically violate proposition 13, but it certainly flies in the face of the SPIRIT OF PROPOSITION 13.  Perhaps it will leave the city open for even MORE law suits.

See how generous you are. Click here to see what you are paying your city employees.  Be sure to have plenty of alka-seltzer and a barf bag!

More taxes?  Aren't you paying enough?

They're Off and Running

It's going to be an interesting election here in Moval. There are lots of candidates but few experienced campaigners.

For city council district 2, my money is on the incumbent Richard Stewart. There's no one that has campaigned in that district like Stewart.

He'll be doing all the things the other candidates won't. He'll be walking precincts and knocking on doors in the daylight hours and be set up at the local markets in the evening. He'll be speaking to  every group who have him and you can bet he'll have plenty of fundraisers featuring guests you will want to meet.

District 4 just may be an upset ending the near 20 year run of the incumbent.  Some may remember the incumbent participating in Moreno Valley's Tea Party to protest the city utility tax.  Running as a LIBERTARIAN she advocated smaller government. Has Moreno Valley government become smaller in the last 20 years? Her most memorable quote when ending the red light camera program, as reported by the press enterprise  "It's not a great money-maker," Moreno Valley Mayor Bonnie Flickinger said.  And they told us the cameras were to increase safety, not make money.

And a response from a Press Enterprise reader

Explain camera flip-flop

Moreno Valley Mayor Pro Tem Bonnie Flickinger said red-light cameras are "not a great money-maker" ("Council decides to end red-light cameras," Dec. 18).

Foolish me. I was led to believe that the cameras were installed in order to improve safety by reducing accidents at dangerous intersections. Now, I'm told that they were installed to make money for the city and failing that, they will have to be removed.

It would be so nice to know what data the decision to install red-light cameras was based on. Since the decision to install cameras was made by the City Council, I'd very much like to know what council members knew and when they knew it.

Maybe putting the information out for all to see might preclude future similar mistakes. If nothing else, it would help my own decision-making process when election time comes around.

Harold Becker

Moreno Valley

Her response to one citizen's concerns is posted here.

Most folks expected a STRONG pro second amendment candidate when she was elected, but she chose to joint with Diane Feinstein in celebrating the now repealed federal "assault weapons" bill in Washington D.C.

One of the challengers is founder of California Friends of the African-American Caucus (see facebook fan page with 19 members) and the candidate I predict will win is Marcelo Co, a long time Moreno Valley businessman.

VOTE NO ON ELECTED MAYOR

For Moval school board, the mudslinging has already begun and the target has been incumbent Victoria Baca, but so far, only by juvenile wannabe bloggers.  We can expect the real attacks to come from the teachers union. She's a great campaigner, but will she be able to counter the attacks from the teachers union?  Time will tell.

Victoria and the Mexican Political Association have been labeled "racists" by some. Strange that the other race based groups in moval like the Hispanic and Black chambers of commerce have not been similarly labeled.

Watch Rios. He ran for council two years ago and came in second.  He's a hard campaigner and the Hispanic surname doesn't hurt, but what may hurt is a lot of the defamatory attacks on him published on line and to which he has yet to respond.   Most recently he was identified on television as a Moreno Valley City Councilman, which he is not.  Some say he identified himself that way.  The most important  consideration is there was no obvious effort on his part to correct the error and it was later corrected by a member of the city council.  Was it deception on his part?  He's also going to have a difficult time dealing with all the enemies he created participating in the failed recall attempt of the city council member who defeated him in the last election.

Many have written about his inappropriate behavior during the hunt for Norma Lopez, but as that has not been confirmed, there will be no further comment on it here.

At a televised council meeting he verbally assailed Councilman Stewart for having a friend who hosts an "anti-police" web site, referring to movalnews.com, thus pandering to those few folks who label all those critical of any police actions as "anti-police".  The attack, of course was upon Councilman Stewart, as if he has some control over what is posted on movalnews.com and inferring that he was anti-police.  Anyone who knows Mr. Stewart or the host of this web site knows how ludicrous such an accusation is.

The words and actions of this person destroy his credibility and movalnews.com recommends that he not be considered for your vote.

For Val Verde school board, I'll bet Wraymond Sawyerr comes out victorious, just because he's a likable guy.

Think you might want to back the candidates endorsed by the teachers union??  Read this first.

Special Message From Moreno Valley Councilman Jesse Molina Regarding Norma Lopez

First of all, Lidia and I would like to express our deepest and sincerest condolences to the Lopez family during these times of great sadness.

Unfortunately it has been apparent that certain individuals are attempting to discredit our city and staff during the situation at hand in order to push for ulterior motives.

With that I would like to call on all city officials, elected officials, board members, chambers of commerce, business owners, and Moreno Valley citizens to take this opportunity to join in unity for the greater good of working together positively to keep this effort on track without negative hindrances which may be of burdens to the Moreno Police department and the FBI.

I believe that keeping the community well and truthfully informed, within the parameters allowed by the officials in charge, would be helpful in keeping any potential conflicts at bay during these difficult times in our city’s history.

 Thank you very much.

Sincerely and respectfully,

Councilmember

Jesse Molina

None Dare Call It Entrapment - Warn Your Friends

A minor under the age of 18 years old was sent into various locations throughout the Jurupa Valley area, under constant supervision, to purchase spray paint. If the cashier sold the spray paint to the minor, they were issued a citation for selling spray paint to a minor. After the decoy left the premises, County Code Enforcement Officers entered the location to look for other violations regarding the proper storage of the paint and signs indicating the minimum age of 18 years to purchase paint. If the location selling the items was in violation, the business was cited for the violation(s).
